The Swedish Jonas Odell is a noteworthy director. Odell was one of the founders of Filmtecknarna, a storytelling and design-based production based company in Stockholm and New York, founded in 1981. One of the speciaizations of Filmtecknarna is the use of live action, 2D and 3D animation in their work. Odell works with short films, documentaries, commercials and music videos. He has worked with artists like Goldfrapp, U2, Rolling Stones, Erasure and Franz Ferdinand to name a few.
At Nordisk Panorama, held in Århus in September, he spoke about his work in a masterclass. In recent years he has been doing shorts and docs based on animation and his short docs Tussilago (2010), Lies (2008) and Never like the first time (2006 – a part of it can be watched later in this post) have won several awards. The graphic visualization and the narrative style in his films make them truely worth seeing. They will open your eyes to new ways of documentary storytelling. The still above is from his film Tussilago.
