Berlinale International Film Festival kicks off today. A festival both for audience as well as industry people, Berlinale is one grand fiesta with great films, film market, co-production opportunities, masterclasses, seminars and lots of parties. 20.000 accredited festival guests visited the festival last year, and 300.000 cinematickets were sold, making Berlinale on the forefront of the world´s leading film festivals.
Some of the festival´s most interesting documentaries are in the Berlinale Special section. These films include; Alison Klayman´s Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry a portrait of Chinese artist and political activist Ai Weiwei, Werner Herzog´s Death Row, a doc about four condemned criminals in American jails and Althawra … Khabar a film directed by Bassam Mortada about the important role of independent media during the Egyptian Revolution. In this doc six journalists share their experience and the difficulty of maintaining a neutral stance. The Berlinale programme can be found here.
It´s the 62nd festival and the final night is the 18th of February when the award ceremony takes place. Those who can´t attend Berlinale this time, it´s worth recommending the live stream on the festival´s website where one can watch red carpet moments, the final ceremony and many more events.
Following is the trailer for Althawra … Khabar.
