Dreamland is a film about a nation standing at a crossroad. Leading up to Iceland’s greatest economic crisis, its government started the largest mega project in the country’s history: To build the biggest dam in Europe. Under the mantra of economic growth, the dam was to provide Alcoa, a leading producer of aluminum, with cheap electricity for an aluminum smelter in the rugged east fjords of Iceland. Today, Iceland is left with a huge debt, facing an uncertain future.
Dreamland won the Best Documentary of the Year at Edda Awards 2010 (The Icelandic Film & TV Awards) and got nominations for Best Music of the Year and Best Sound of the Year. The film has been screened at numerous film festivals such as IDFA, Hot Docs, San Fransisco Documentary Film Festival, Göteborg International Film Festival and Nordisk Panorama to name a few.
